Madeleine Johnson Dean

Hi y'all, I'm Madeleine!

Growing up the only child of a graphic designer and a folk singer, I developed two very specific traits at a young age: a deep belief that art matters and a wildly expansive imagination. As a kid I wrote stories to pass the time, to try to make sense of the world, and to take myself on adventures. Years later, I'm still doing the same thing.

When I'm not writing, you can find me making movies, teaching high schoolers how to write better essays, or plotting my next roadtrip.

The Transit Chronicles, and other San Francisco Dreams

I moved to the Bay Area in 2016 and spent that first year commuting into the city every day for various jobs- on most days, I wrote poetry in the Notes section of my phone while on the train. I unearthed some of these little pieces and wanted to share!
